The rains bring change to the Kalahari

The big changes have started. After a few extremely hot days, like only the Kalahari can offer, the signs of relief began to appear on the horizon, where rain clouds were building up and crawling in from the north.

Cheetah Kill

It is late afternoon in the Kalahari, a beautiful sunset in the background, and we are watching a female cheetah on top of a rusty red sand dune looking over springbok grazing on a grassy plain.

Animal Rescue Day

It is a Friday afternoon in the Kalahari and who would have thought we would release a cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) and a African rock python (Python natalensis) of three and a half meters, all on the same day.

Summer is here

What a pleasure to have summer back in the Kalahari, mornings are filled with the sound of migratory birds the fresh warm air blowing against your face as you drive through the bush, the smell of rain is a promising one but the heat overpowering the water before it reaches the surface.

Sleeping out under the stars

The wind had died down, the threatening clouds had ceased to race down upon us and a few stars even shone. We were having dinner on one of our dunes, and the plan was to sleep out under the stars on that very dune. There had been some concern voiced over this idea due to the weather. There is a saying at Tswalu, if you want it to rain, plan a bush dinner.
