In December 2009, an adult female of the northern pride gave birth to four healthy cubs. Now, seven months later, there is commotion in the pride as it seems the second female is in estrous, with the dominant male harassing her and not allowing her even a few meters away from him.

We have been able to follow the pride all week and witness the pair mate. With all the commotion there has been much inquisitive enquiry from the cubs. This of course has led to a few aggressive moments from the dominant male and receptive female, as they wanted no interference. Given the duration of time the male and female have spent mating, we are hoping she is in full estrous and that we can expect the northern pride to have some new members in the next few months.
