Tswalu Kalahari

Nestling at the foot of the rugged Korannaberg, the exclusive Tswalu Motse (Tswana for village) lies on the edge of the desert wilderness known as the Kalahari. Designed to blend inconspicuously into the mountains, it has eight spacious legaes (Tswana for home), whose design reflects the harmonious fusion of classic African style with understated elegance.

A persistent tapping on the door pulls me, reluctantly, from the depths of my sleep. It’s 5am, the average rise-and-shine time while on safari. Time for a quick coffee before we hit the road, or should I say, make tracks. I’m about to experience the dramatic terrain of the Tswalu Kalahari Reserve, 100,000 hectares of former farmland that has been transformed into a conservation area.

In this day and age, very few African safaris can claim to have it all - prespect for the animals and the environment; luxurious accommodation, total child-friendliness, fine food, knowledgeable guides and wildlife to make it all worth your while.

Tswalu Kalahari Reserve is the largest privately-owned safari in South Africa. It covers 10,000 square of land on the edge of the mysterious desert wilderness along the Northern Cape Province of South Africa. Accommodating 32 guests at most, the Reserve is composed of seven Motse Lodges and one Tarkuni Lodge.
