Activities - Golf: Kalahari Desert Golfing at Sishen Golf Course

Of all the golf courses in South Africa Sishen Golf Course is one of the most remote. Situated on the outskirts of the town of Kathu in the Northern Cape Province, this is truly a unique setting in which to play a round of golf - the course winds its way through a 500 hectare Camelthorn forest on the edge of the Kalahari Desert. However, considering its surroundings, its lush green fairways and greens have surprised many a visitor to this arid region.

Sishen Golf Course is one of the most remote golf courses situated on the edge of the Kalahari Desert

Sishen's par 72, 18-hole course is currently rated in the top 20 best golf courses in South Africa and is truly a hidden gem. The course is host to the annual Kalahari Classic, the 2nd stop on the winter leg of the Vodacom Southern African Tour. This 54-hole tournament has proven to be extremely popular over the years and has been won by pros such as AP Botes, Sean Pappas and Des Terblanche. The club also hosts the 72-hole Griqualand West Open each year, one of the more prestigious events on the Amateur calendar.>

The course is 6450 metres in length and has a rating of 72. Water comes into play on the 6th, 9th and 18th holes with the magnificent Camelthorn ready to ensnare any stray shots.

Sishen Golf Club is just over an hour's drive from Tswalu and transfers, accompanied by a Tswalu ranger, can be organised. Tswalu has a CAA licensed tar runway that can accommodate corporate jets such as Gulf Stream, Falcon, BA146 etc. Kathu's runway is a 10 minute drive from Golf Club.

Green fees, transfer costs, a caddie and lunch cost R 580 (2 ball) per person and R460 (4 ball) per person. Of all the golf courses in South Africa, Sishen Golf Club is worth a visit while on your safari at Tswalu.
